Lull in Ukrainian apple market
According to Fruit-Inform, after higher activity in the Ukrainian apple market before New Year holidays, trade is again characterized by a slack.
An increase in apple sales was registered in the country before New Year holidays. Despite that, Ukrainian farmers did not manage to raise prices as the supply was still high. It should be noted that mainly domestic apples were offered in the market, while the share of imported produce was insignificant due to its high prices. In the majority of cases, prices varied between UAH 3.50-6.50/kg (EUR 0.33-0.61/kg), depending on variety, quality and shipment volume.
Currently, growers offer apples at the same prices. However, the interest in purchasing new quantities is appreciably lower. Nevertheless, farmers do not plan to reduce prices. Moreover, some growers plan to raise them by early February in view of a seasonal decrease in stocks.
We would remind you that more detailed information about Russian and Ukrainian apple business with 5-year outlook is available in the fundamental study “Apples of Ukraine & Russia — 2013: Present Situation and Prospects in Growing, Storage, Handling, Processing and Marketing”.
