Record high exports of Ukrainian carrots
Ukrainian companies exported 1,500 tonnes of carrots in the first half of the season 2012/13 (July-December 2012) that was record high for this period and 20 times as many as in the same period of 2011, when they had shipped just 70 tonnes.
Ukraine's export geography also changed year-on-year. For the second season in a row, Moldova turned out to be the leader in imports of Ukrainian carrots with the share of 67% in Ukraine's total exports. Russia and Belarus imported actively too. However, these countries purchased only early carrots in July and were not interested in late produce. In such a way, late carrots were actively supplied only to Moldova with relatively low exports registered also towards Bulgaria.
As regards further prospects in the Ukrainian carrot market, more information on it will be presented at the 5th International Conference “Potatoes & Vegetables of Ukraine – 2013” that is to take place in Kiev, Ukraine, February 19-20, 2013.
