Moldova doubles apple exports to Russia
Moldova doubled apple exports to the Russian Federation in February 2013 compared with the same month of 2012. Exports reached record high 12,000 tonnes.
Nevertheless, Moldova's cumulative exports to Russia over the first 8 months of the season 2012/13 were 16% lower year-on-year and stood at just 150,000 tonnes.
The sharpest decrease in Moldovan exports was registered in the first half of the season. Moldova was behind Poland in the list of Russia's apple suppliers until January. Only after January 2013, Russia's imports of Moldovan apples became higher year-on-year. Nevertheless, Moldovan exporters still did not manage to leave Polish competitors behind.
