Ukraine reduces pear imports
According to State Statistics Service of Ukraine, the country imported 4,900 tonnes of pears in the first 9 months of the season 2012/13, a decrease of 25% from the same period of the previous season. Lower imports were connected with a decrease in pear production in exporting countries: Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Belgium.
Reduction of imports also affected pear prices at the majority of Ukrainian wholesale markets. Last year pears were sold averagely at UAH 18-20/kg (EUR 1.75-1.91/kg). Current prices are higher: UAH 20-25/kg (EUR 1.95-2.43/kg).
We would remind you that detailed statistical data on Russian and Ukrainian fruit and vegetable imports in the past 3 years as well as largest importers' contacts and other valuable market information are available in the informational product Russia & Ukraine: Fruit and Vegetable Business Yearbook 2012.
