Further increase in Ukrainian fresh produce price index
Fruit-Inform's Ukrainian fresh produce price index grew by 6.4% last week, after an increase of 63.2% over the previous three weeks.
“The highest price increase rates were registered in the segment of traditional vegetables (onions, white cabbage, beetroots, carrots). Potato prices were stable last week”, says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. “This week is expected to be a good opportunity for the majority of farmers to sell significant volumes of potato and vegetable stocks. At the same time, too rapid increase in prices over previous four weeks may prevent Ukrainian growers from taking advantage of a pre-holiday surge in the demand in Russia and exporting significant volumes to this market”.
Prices of apples continued to grow last week, and their average price had exceeded last year's level for the first time in this season. In addition, cucumber prices sharply increased in Ukraine last week. Tomatoes became slightly less expensive.
