Slight increase in Ukrainian fresh produce price index due to worse weather conditions
Fruit-Inform's Ukrainian fresh produce price index has grown by 0.3% in the week from June 1 to 7, after a decrease of 3.9% a week earlier and a fall of 27% within the whole May.
“Lower fresh produce price index in Ukraine is connected with worse weather conditions in the country, which led to lower average daily temperatures and abundant rainfall in the majority of regions”, says Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. “Such conditions provoked a decrease in supply of strawberries, sweet cherries and early vegetables as well as their price growth”.
In particular, we should mention an increase in prices of early white cabbage and early onions. Outputs and supply of early potatoes in the southern regions became lower too, as farmers were not able to conduct field works due to higher soil humidity. Prices of strawberries also grew, as their season came to an end in the southern regions of Ukraine. Sweet cherries became more expensive too.
At the same time, greenhouse cucumbers and tomatoes kept on decreasing in price due to growing supply. Banana prices continued to fall too.
