Russian potato buyers. Who are they?

The analysts of Potato Union of Russia have drawn up a Russian buyers portrait. The experts believe a typical buyer of potatoes in Russia is represented by a married woman aged 30-40 who buys averagely 2-3 kg of potatoes for a family of up to three in supermarkets after her working hours averagely once a week.

According to the experts, almost all Russian buyers prefer domestic potatoes, and the absolute majority of them still know little about potato varieties and virtually do not read packaging information about suppliers. At the same time, more than a half of surveyed buyers said of packaging and appearance being relevant for them. At the moment of purchase, more than 60% of potato buyers in Russia had no idea what dishes they would make with purchased potatoes.

As regards the Ukrainian potato market and consumer behavior, more information about them will be presented at the 10th Anniversary International Conference “Fruits & Vegetables of Ukraine-2013”, November 26-28, 2013, International Exhibition Center, Kiev, Ukraine.
