Ukraine: Auchan and Billa to lead in Ukrainian supermarkets ranking
Fruit-Inform has prepared its traditional ranking of Ukrainian supermarket chains for the 10th International Conference “Fruits & Vegetables of Ukraine – 2013”, which was held on November 26-27, 2013, Kiev. The ranking was presented by Mr. Ievgen Kuzin, International Relations Manager of Fruit-Inform.
It was based on the results of the monitoring conducted on November 14-16 in five largest cities of the country: Dnipropetrovsk, Odessa, Donetsk, Lviv and Kiev. The monitoring took into account a variety of factors: assortment of a fruit and vegetable departments, freshness of products, price levels, promotion of Ukrainian produce etc.
“We can say of the following trends observed in Ukrainian supermarket chains. The assortment of fruits and vegetables offered in Ukrainian supermarkets has been growing in a qualitative manner, and higher wholesale prices of traditional vegetables enabled stores to offer more packaged products”, said Mr. Kuzin.
As a result, as at November 2013, Auchan Ukraine was the leader in the ranking, while a year ago it was only second. Billa Ukraine took the second position in the ranking and was nominated as a “breakthrough of the year”. Metro being the leader in November 2012 was just the third this year. Then the ranking was represented by Novus, Megamarket, Silpo, Furshet, Ekomarket and Velyka Kyshenya. ATB-Market was the last due to lower assortment and quality of fruits and vegetables compared with its competitors. However, consumer prices offered by ATB-Market were the lowest after Ekomarket.
