Ukrainian fresh produce price index up again
Fruit-Inform Ukrainian fresh produce price index grew by 1.2% in the week from January 24th to 31th, after an increase of 0.7% a week earlier. Nevertheless, prices are still averagely 9.6% lower compared with the beginning of the year 2014.
“An increase in the fresh produce price index is connected with higher prices of fruits”, says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. “In addition, white cabbage and cucumbers also became more expensive. White cabbage prices grew by 13.3%, after an increase of 15.4% a week earlier”.
Fruits became 10.2% more expensive, one of the sharpest jump in their prices over the past year. Apple prices went up by 22.2%, prices of bananas increased by 15.8%, and lemons became 9.1% more expensive. Furthermore, the market analysts warn that an increase in Ukrainian hryvnia to US dollar exchange rate may provoke even more serious growth in prices of imported fruits.
