Russia: record high imports of Dutch pears in January

Russia's imports of Dutch pears in January 2014 were the highest over the past 5 years, according to Federal State Statistics Service of the Russian Federation.

The import volumes stood at 11,500 tons, an increase of 28% compared with January 2013.

Russia's cumulative imports of pears from the Netherlands over the first 7 months of the current season also grew by 28% to 46,000 tons.

Furthermore, the Netherlands were the largest exporter of pears to the Russian Federation in July 2013 – January 2014 with the share of 25% in Russia's total pear imports. Poland and Belgium ranked second and third, respectively.
