Ukraine: strawberry prices down by a half over a week
According to Fruit-Inform, strawberry prices have been going down in Ukraine thanks to growing supply of domestic produce.
For the present, growers offer strawberries at UAH 20-35/kg (EUR 1.21-2.11/kg), a decrease of 50% compared with the previous week, when they had been sold at no lower than UAH 40/kg (EUR 2.41/kg).
Nevertheless, the supply of strawberries is still limited in Ukraine. A significant increase in strawberry volumes is expected in the market after May 20th, almost two weeks later than a year before. We would remind you that the supply of strawberries in the mid-May 2013 was significantly higher than today in view of earlier start of the season. As a result, under conditions of severe competition, growers had to sell strawberries at prices half of current levels.
We would remind you that more detailed information about the Ukrainian berry market developments will be presented at the 5th International Conference “Berries of Ukraine-2014: Frozen Produce & Fresh Market” that is to take place on May 22-23, 2014, Feride Plaza, Vinnytsia, Ukraine.
