Ukraine: strawberry crop losses may reach 50% in some farms

According to Fruit-Inform, a cold spell registered in Ukraine on May 5-7, has led to significant damages to strawberry plantations in the country.

Ukrainian growers say that surface temperature was lower than three degrees below zero in some regions that in some cases was fatal for a considerable part of the strawberry crop.

The situation is controversial now. Some farmers from the southern regions say of almost no damages to strawberry plantations and expect no fall in production. Other farms say of up to 50% losses of the strawberry crop. The most significant damages were caused to early varieties, but the situation with late strawberries was not so fatal.

How will weather conditions impact Ukraine's total strawberry production in 2014? This and many other questions will be answered at the 5th International Conference “Berries of Ukraine-2014: Frozen Produce & Fresh Market” that is to take place on May 22-23, 2014, Feride Plaza, Vinnytsia, Ukraine.
