Russia: prices of Belgian pears up

Prices of pears of Belgian origin have grown in the Russian Federation compared with the beginning of May.

In particular, wholesale companies from Moscow offer Belgian pears at 0.86-1.21 euro/kg, an increase of 10-16% compared with early May, with Conference pears now being shipped at highest prices.

Prices in Saint Petersburg went up by 11-16% to 0.94-1.23 euro/kg. Conference pears again are the most expensive there, and Packham's Triumph variety is offered at lowest prices.

We would remind you that Belgium is the second largest exporter of pears to Russia with only the Netherlands shipping more. According to the official statistics, in July 2013 – March 2014, the Russian Federation imported 48,000 tons of pears from Belgium that accounted for 18% in Russia's total imports.
