Russia suspects Albania of smuggling European fruits

Russia's veterinary and phytosanitary watchdog (Rosselkhoznadzor) suspects Albania of smuggling European fruits to Russia, said Mr. Aleksey Alekseyenko, Deputy Chief of Rosselkhoznadzor.

«Rosselkhoznadzor suspects Albania of illegal re-exports, i.e. smuggling, of banned European products», he said.

Russia's watchdog suspects Albania of illegal re-exports in view of Albania's exports of apricots, sour cherries and peaches to have quadrupled in 2014 compared with 2013. In addition, inspection of Albanian produce certificates has identified signs of falsification.

Rosselkhoznadzor asked Albania's veterinary service to provide information on agricultural crops produced in the country and areas under them within a week. Russia's watchdog makes attempt to avoid necessity to introduce restrictions on imports of fruits from Albania in that way.
