Khmelnytskyi Region leads in plum production in Ukraine
According to the official statistics, Khmelnytskyi Region is the leader in plum production in Ukraine. The leadership is registered thanks to relatively high plum yields there: as regards areas under plum orchards, it ranks only second after Zakarpattia Region.
Plum production in Khmelnytskyi Region totaled 27,000 tons in 2013, an increase of 8% year-on-year and 26% higher than average over the past 5 seasons.
At the same time, areas under plum orchards have not changed over the past 7 years there and stand at 2,200 hectares, while yields have grown by 50% over that period.
It should be noted that Khmelnytskyi Region became the leader in plum production in 2004 and almost regularly kept its status for the following 10 years except several times, when, due to unfavorable weather conditions, Zakarpattia Region ranked first.
In this season, Khmelnytskyi Region accounted for about 15% of Ukraine's total plum production.
