Ukraine: Chernivtsi Region reports fastest apple orchard expansion rates
Growers from Chernivtsi Region of Ukraine have expanded their areas under apple orchards by 50% over the past 5 years, which enabled it to become the leader in apple orchard expansion rates in Ukraine.
According to the official statistics, areas under apple orchards stood at 7,000 hectares in Chernivtsi Region in 2008. Thus, it ranked only fifth after Vinnytsia, Khmelnytskyi, Zakarpattia and Kharkiv Regions.
The regions ranking has significantly changed by 2013. Thanks to setting out new intensive orchards, total areas in Chernivtsi Region reached 10,900 hectares, which enabled it to rank second after Vinnytsia Region.
It should be noted that apple yields have also more than doubled in Chernivtsi Region over the past 5 years as well as apple production, which is now 2.3 times as high as registered in 2008 and totals 118,000 tons.
