Russia halves apple imports in October

Russia has almost halved apple imports in October 2014 compared with the same month of the previous year.

According to the official statistics, Russia's imports of apples totaled just 50,000 tons against 91,000 tons in October 2013.

Such a sharp fall in imports was registered due to the ban on crop imports from the EU and Moldova introduced by the Russian Federation. It should be noted that the EU countries and the Republic of Moldova accounted for 64% of Russia's total apple imports in October 2013.

As a result, Azerbaijan and China were the largest suppliers of apples to Russia in October 2014 with the shares of 22% each. Ukraine ranked third and accounted for the share of 15%.
