Russian vegetable market: table beets in lowest demand
According to Fruit-Inform, the demand for table beets is the lowest in the Russian market for potatoes and traditional vegetables.
Russian farmers say that purchasers are interested mainly in white cabbages and onions, while the situation with table beet sales is very difficult. Prices of table beets are almost stable and slightly change only under the influence of a general positive trend in the vegetable market. Furthermore, farmers have immediately reported of a fall in the demand for their table beets after an increase in their prices.
As a result, for the present, table beets are shipped at RUB 15-18/kg (EUR 0.20-0.24/kg), an increase of just 25% year-on-year. For comparison, a year-on-year increase in white cabbage prices stands at 2.5 times, onion prices have grown by 50%, carrots and potatoes have become 40-50% more expensive.
