Russia: prices of imported apples double year-on-year
Current prices of imported apples in Russia are at least twice as high as registered in the same period of the previous season.
Despite active ban on imports from the EU countries, the segment of imported apples is represented mainly by Polish produce shipped to Russia as Serbian one. Russian wholesalers offer those apples at RUB 60-75/kg (USD 0.99-1.10/kg). For comparison, in February 2014, prices of Polish apples rarely exceeded RUB 30-35/kg (USD 0.84-0.98/kg).
The market participants connect an increase in prices mainly with the devaluation of the Russian ruble, as the price growth in the dollar equivalent stands at just 15%.
