Currant prices may sharply go down in Ukraine in 2015
Fruit-Inform analysts expect Ukrainian growers to harvest record large volumes of currants in 2015, as shown by the results of the fundamental study «Fruit & Vegetable Market of Ukraine-2015: Results and Forecasts for the Next Season».
An increase in production will be connected with new plantations set 2-3 years ago to turn into bearing this year. According to preliminary expectations, currant production may be higher year-on-year even under conditions of lower yields in Ukraine.
Mr. Oleg Bosyi, International Berry Expert, shares the same opinion concerning the Ukrainian currant market outlook. According to his data, commercial areas under currants have been growing for the fifth year in a row, especially in the western and central regions of the country. The expert also says that currant production has several advantages compared with other berry crops: they are the least fastidious among berries and their harvesting can be easily mechanized, in contrast to raspberries and strawberries.
We would remind you that for a long time currants have been ones of few berry crops, which prices have been almost stable within the whole harvesting campaign. In addition, according to Fruit-Inform data, the Ukrainian currant market has been characterized by no serious fall in prices over the past 5 years. However, currants will most likely become sharply less expensive this year due to a jump in the supply in the Ukrainian market.
More detailed information about the Ukrainian berry market developments and outlook will be presented at the 6th International Conference «Berries of Ukraine-2015: Frozen Produce & Fresh Market». The conference will be held on May 21-22, 2015, Kiev, Ukraine.
