Ukraine: Crimean growers start plum harvesting campaign
Several large Crimean fruit growers reported of the start of the plum harvesting campaign this week.
The campaign started almost two weeks later than a year before in view of later blossoming in orchards due to long and rainy spring. However, growers say of plum trees' less significant losses from drops in temperature in winter and spring in comparison with other stonefruit crops. As a result, they expect less considerable fall in plum production compared with peaches and apricots.
For the present, growers ship plums at RUB 60-90/kg (USD 0.95-1.42/kg), depending on variety and quality, almost three times as high as a year before, and expect more active sales in the first half of August.
