Ukraine: potato production to go down in 2015
Potato production will be lower year-on-year in Ukraine in 2015, said Mr. Nikolay Gordiychuk, President of Ukrainian Association of Potato Producers.
According to him, drought has significantly affected the potato crop in Kiev, Zhytomyr and Chernihiv regions. As a result, he expects a decrease in potato production.
«If we take into account a decrease of 15-20% in farms' plantings and a fall in yields, a shortage can be possible. In addition, weather conditions have seriously affected the quality of potatoes», he added.
Bulb sizes are small due to high temperature and lack of moisture in soil. As a result, the quality of potatoes has significantly worsened compared with a year before.
