Ukraine: third week of growth in fresh produce price index
Fruit-Inform Ukrainian fresh produce price index has grown by 0.4% in the week from August 22nd to 28th, after two previous weeks of seasonal growth. Nevertheless, the price index has grown just slightly over the past three weeks (+8%) due to mixed price trend in the market.
«An inter-seasonal period in the market for traditional vegetables keeps on impacting the price trend in the market as harvesting of early varieties has already finished even in the western regions of the country, while harvesting of late ones has not started even in the southern regions», says Ms. Tetiana Getman, Head of Fruit-Inform. «An inter-seasonal period is especially registered in the segment of white cabbages, which are now even imported from Poland».
In general, the price index of traditional vegetables has grown by 12% week-on-week. In addition to white cabbage prices, growth was registered in onion ones. Greenhouse and seasonal vegetables became 1.7% more expensive. At the same time, the fresh fruit price index went down by 3.3% due to a fall in prices of melons and watermelons.
