Wild berries in highest export demand in the Ukrainian organic segment
The Ukrainian organic market has been gradually growing year by year with the most rapid growth rates registered in the segment of wild berries, said Mr. Andrey Konyashin, Executive Director at the Federation of Organic Movement in Ukraine, at the 12th International Conference «Fruits & Vegetables of Ukraine-2015. «There are about 300,000 ha under wild berries certified in Ukraine, and those products are in the highest demand in the European market», he said. «As a rule, those berries are sold frozen, and their internal market sales stand at minimum levels».
Mr. Konyashin also said of still relatively low demand for organic products in Ukraine, as prices of organic fruits and vegetables are several times of those fixed for conventional ones, and Ukrainian consumers are not ready to pay more in the majority of cases.
