White cabbage prices rapidly up in Ukraine
Ukrainian growers have been rapidly raising their white cabbage prices, according to Fruit-Inform.
Now they vary between UAH 7-12/kg (EUR 0.24-0.41/kg), an increase of at least 20% week-on-week. We would remind you that minimum prices stood at UAH 6/kg (EUR 0.20/kg) in the end of this May.
The Ukrainian market participants connect such a situation with shortage of supply of produce and rather high demand for white cabbage shown by domestic wholesalers. In its turn, lack of supply is connected with a decrease in areas under early varieties in this season. In addition, many farms said of significant losses due to bad weather conditions in spring.
It should also be noted that current prices of white cabbage are already 10 times as high as in the mid-June 2016 and record high over all history of independent Ukraine.
