Russia: white cabbage prices 6 times as high as a year before
White cabbage prices have been rapidly growing in Russia and now are averagely 6 times as high as in the same period of the previous year, according to Fruit-Inform.
Now farms from the southern regions of Russia are ready to sell their white cabbage at RUB 35-40/kg (USD 0.61-0.70/kg), an increase of 60-80% week-on-week.
The Russian market participants connect such a rapid rise in prices with shortage of supply of produce, as the majority of growers have already finished their season of early varieties, while harvesting campaign of later ones is not active now. Meanwhile, the demand for produce is extremely high.
As a result, farmers manage to raise their prices rapidly. However, such a price situation is of temporary character, and the market analysts expect prices to go down again in the nearest time.
