Russia: cucumber prices down against 2017
A significant slowdown in trade in the Russian cucumber market has negatively affected prices. As a result, they have fallen notably against the first half of January 2017, reports Fruit-Inform referring to the daily monitoring data.
Since the beginning of 2018, prices in the Russian market have fallen by 28% averagely. Now domestic growers are fixing their cucumber prices at least at RUB 70/kg ($1.23/kg) and offer gherkins at RUB 120-150/kg ($2.11-2.63/kg).
Growers are forced to reduce their prices despite relatively limited supply of domestic produce, as the majority of them have not started shipping new cucumber crop yet. In their turn, sellers of imported cucumbers lower prices due to a fall in the demand for their products.
It is also worth mentioning that current prices of Russian cucumbers are much lower compared with the same period of 2017, when they stood at least at RUB 120/kg, and traders do not expect any positive changes in the Russian market situation in the nearest time.
