Grape yield 2004 in Crimea decreased twice comparing to the previous year

Viniculture farms of Crimea have finished harvesting season; in total 55,000 tons of grape is harvested that is twice lesser than in the previous year. The Ministry of Agrarian Policy of AR Crimea informed about it the informational agency "Context-media". According to the provided information, the biggest volumes were harvested in the coastal area, in particular, on the Southern Coast of Crimea and Feodosia region. The Ministry also informed that this year the direct losses of Crimean viniculture enterprises as a result of the unfavorable weather conditions are USD $302,000.

As Agricultural Marketing Project (AMP) informed earlier, grape fields of Crimea suffered form early frosts this year. During the vegetation process the producers were forced to increase the expenses for grape protection means from pests and diseases, as a consequence of the cool summer with much rainfall. So the grape yield decreased and its quality was comparatively low.

The AMP analysts expect the grape production in Ukraine to increase in the nearest future, cause this business is profitable and perspective enough. The growth rates for the acreage of vineyards are constrained by the absence of land market and no possibility for long-term credits at the reasonable interest rates.
