Vegetables and fruits are "hiding" from frosts in the supermarkets

According to the information provided by the specialists of Agricultural Marketing Project (AMP), since the beginning of winter frosts the demand on vegetables and fruits has gone up rapidly in the supermarkets and, respectively, the demand on these commodities has decreased on freshmarkets. Despite of the fact that this trend is traditional, in recent two years it has become even more distinct, as observed by AMP experts.

To the opinion of marketing experts, this is the result of the more productive efforts of the supermarkets concerning fruit and vegetable purchases, extension of the assortment, quality and presentation improvement. Besides, many supermarkets revised their price policy concerning fruit and vegetable sectors and are trying to keep the prices up with the bazaar prices level. This approach let the supermarket win the competitive struggle with the freshmarket, because in the supermarket a consumer has such advantages as warm and dry premises, an accurate weight of the commodities, packing and quality guarantees.
