Export grain shipments from fSU countries dropped 31 pc this year

Total grain export shipments from Ukraine, Russia and Baltic countries over the first ten months of 2004 amounted 8.611 million tonnes, which is 31 percent less than the shipments in the same period last year, SeaNews agency informed.

Grain shipments from these countries in October were 37 percent less than in October 2003. The most significant drop in monthly shipments occurred in the Baltic countries (66 pc) and in the south of Russia (43 pc).

The share of Ukraine in combined grain exports of fSU countries in October this year increased from 45 to 53 percent, while the share of the neighbouring part of Russia's Black & Azov Sea basin decreased to 28 percent from 35 percent in October last year.
