Weather favours grain crop in Kazakhstan

With account of favourable weather conditions, Kazakhstan estimates its grain crop prospects this year at more than 12.4 million tonnes, ITAR-TASS news agency informed with reference to Kazakhstan's agriculture ministry.

According to the ministry, this winter proved to be very snowy, and in the main grain growing area (northern regions of the country) considerable moisture stocks have been accumulated in the soil. This will affect the country's grain crop, which is to a great degree weather-sensitive, in a favourable manner.

In northern Kazakhstan the height of the snow cover is currently twice above the norm, but the depth of the soil frost penetration is considerably lower than usual, which will allow the farmers starting spring fieldwork in earlier terms.
