The capacities of fruit and vegetable processing in Zakarpattya continue to grow dynamically resulting in the deficit of raw materials

According to the information provided by Zakarpattya office of Agricultural Marketing Project (AMP), the dynamical development of fruit and vegetable processing industry goes on in the oblast. At the present moment, as the AMP evaluation shows, not less than 10 large and medium enterprises are actively working in the sphere of the production of canned fruits and vegetables, tomato paste, juice and concentrates, frozen fruits and vegetables.

In the previous season the messages about the capacity increase expected in the industry of cucumber and other vegetable processing in Zakarpattya oblast were quite doubtful in regard to the abilities to utilize the capacity rates; this year it is even more possible that these enterprises are not able to implement their plans. Right at the moment the purchasing plans, for example, of cucumber commodities are twice larger than the most ambitious plans of the previous year.

The canneries have already started to sign the supply agreements on the new harvest of cucumber with the farmers, trying to avoid the significant deficit of raw materials observed past year; despite of this fact, the deficit on cucumber on market will probably be rather sufficient even in case of the favorable weather conditions. As to evaluations of Zakarpattya AMP office, farmers are ready to increase the acreage of cucumber producing lands only on 50-70% maximum comparing to the previous year, and it is not enough to implement the plans of cucumber processing volumes which have all the processing enterprises in Zakarpattya oblast
