The boom demand on cucumber, tomato and radish is observed in Kyiv
Today the wholesale market "Farmer" in Kyiv city has witnessed the dramatic rush of the customers because of the coming holidays. According to the information provided by Alexander Skrebets, the Price Monitoring Specialist of the Agricultural Marketing Project, during his visit to the market today early in the morning, he saw queues of the small wholesale buyers of such commodities as tomatoes and cucumbers.
As it usually occurs, in line with the boom demand the sellers have been able to increase the sales prices on fruit and vegetable commodities once again. Today the most frequent price on tomatoes was USD $ 2.37/kg; however, part of the high quality commodities were sold on a higher price. The minimal price on tomatoes jumped up for yesterday's USD $ 1.78/kg to today's USD $ 2.18/kg.
Cucumbers also met a very strong demand and were sold on USD $ 2.17-2.37/kg. Despite of the relatively high price, as A. Skrebets said, the deficit on radish is forming on market. To satisfy the demand, the sellers will have to increase radish supply significantly; otherwise the increase of the wholesale price in a couple of days is inevitable.
In the whole, in next two days the producers will have a good opportunity to raise money selling early vegetable commodities on Kyiv wholesale market. It is expected that after the holidays the prices on early vegetables will go down to the previous level and continue decreasing.
