In Cherkasy oblast the producers started to plant in the open ground the seedlings of tomato and cucumber for processing
According to the information provided by Sergiy Strokan, the Marketing Information Specialist of Agricultural Marketing Project (AMP) the producers started to plant in the open ground the seedlings of tomato and cucumber planned for processing. We should note that at the present moment the favorable weather conditions for sowing and planting of the mentioned crops have been created, as the level of soil moisturizing is satisfactory.
This year in the oblast the acreage extension is recorded for cucumbers planned for processing. According to the previous prognoses of AMP specialists, in case of the favorable weather conditions the cucumber production may increase almost on one third comparing to past year and even to exceed the top record of 2003 gross production.
AMP note. Cherkasy oblast is a leader of cucumber production per one inhabitant and has the second place in Ukraine as regards to the gross yield of this commodity. Five large enterprises process cucumbers in the oblast; according to the plans of the enterprises, in 2005 the cucumber processing volume should exceed 4,000 t.
