The price on cucumber is decreasing dramatically

According to the information provided by Dmitriy Chernyak, the Market Information Specialist of Odesa office, Agricultural Marketing Project (AMP), during this week the retail prices on greenhouse cucumber have dropped down from USD $ 0.75-0.99/kg to 0.59/kg on "Privoz" market in Odesa. The minor wholesale sets of cucumber are supplied on USD $ 0.55/kg. In the same period past year cucumber cost USD $ 1.38-1.58/kg in retail, and lowered to the price level, which is observed now, only in the end of the first decade of June. The market players think it is due to the increased supply of the locally produced greenhouse cucumber. Nowadays the farmers-vegetable producers show the sustained interest to the production of this type of early commodity; this crop is of good profitability, it enjoys the practically guaranteed high demand, as the climatic conditions allow Odesa farmers to be nearly the first to harvest greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine. The seed suppliers mention that many vegetable producers have passed from cucumber varietals to its hybrids of a better yield; so the production supply volumes of this commodity grow correspondently.

The analysts suppose the further development of the competition among the producers in this market sector.
