Early cabbage is cheapening in the southern regions and becoming dearer on the west
During the past week the prices on early cabbage have been moving to the different directions in the southern and western regions of Ukraine. So, the price on early cabbage has decreased from USD $ 0.39/kg to 0.23/kg during the recent 10 days on the wholesale fruit and vegetable market "Kopani" in Kherson oblast. At the same time on the wholesale market "Shuvar", Lviv, the price on this commodity has grown from USD $ 0.39/kg to 0.59/kg.
The specialists explain this situation by the fact that, unlike in the southern regions, in the west the major supplier of early cabbage is Zakarpattya; this commodity has not yielded much there this year because of cold weather in April and May. At the same time, the set supply channels are working, so that the wholesalers from the western regions traditionally purchase early cabbage in Zakarpattya; it leads to the cabbage deficit in western oblast and glut in the south. Cabbage of both Zakarpattya and Odesa or Kherson origin is supplied to Kyiv, so the price is more balanced; still it has grown on 10-20% during the past decade.
