Early cabbage is sold on USD $ 0.13/kg in Kherson oblast
Early cabbage has cheapened from USD $ 0.39/kg to 0.13/kg on the wholesale fruit and vegetable market "Kopani", Kherson oblast during the past decade. The market players explain this price decrease on more than 60% by the insufficient demand on this commodity - after very high prices on cabbage in the middle of May the market of southern regions was glutted by the large supply of early cabbage.
We'll remind that the production of early cabbage could increase on 30% and more this year, according to the tentative prognoses of Agricultural Marketing Project based on the results of the survey conducted among the producers of this commodity and the seed companies. As it has been already reported, because of cold weather in April and May Zakarpattya producers were not able to have the expected harvest, they even decreased the production volumes comparing to the previous year. At the same time the southern regions of Ukraine produced much more cabbage than in the previous year. Such imbalanced production led to the correspondent price difference: cabbage costs today USD $ 0.59/kg (in wholesale) in Lviv, and USD $ 0.13/kg in Kherson oblast.
