Information for fruit and vegetables business in CIS
The retail prices on early vegetables in Ukraine decreased 3-5 times during a month but still were 1.5-2 times higher than in the previous year
The results of daily retail price monitoring conducted by Agricultural Marketing Project prove that the prices on early vegetables have gone down dramatically during the recent 30 days. Early potato cheapened most of all - in 5-6 times in average. According to the market players' reports, the next abrupt price decrease on this commodity is expected to take place this week due to the supply growth of field potato.
On the wholesale market "Farmer" in Kyiv this commodity was offered today on USD $ 0.59-0.79/kg, on "Kopani" market in Kherson oblast - USD $ 0.39/kg. Nevertheless, the retail price on early potato still remained nearly two times higher than in the previous year.
Despite of the fact that retail price decrease on white cabbage constituted 50-52% during a month (2.2 times), this commodity costs 50-60% more expensive that a year earlier. This month cucumber also cheapened in two times, but they were 30-40% dearer than in the same period of time past year. Greenhouse tomatoes cheapened insignificantly during a month - only on 15-20%, though the dramatic price drop may take place this week. As of the end of past week, the price on greenhouse tomato was higher in 1.5 times than a year ago. The price on squash decreased 3-4 times during a month.
