Ukrainian canneries started to process cucumber
Past week the season of cucumber processing started on the Ukrainian canneries. This year the producers of canned produce are going to process much more cucumber comparing to the previous year. According to the evaluation carried out by the Agricultural Marketing Project, the increase of canned cucumber production may be 20-40%. Such forecast is grounded on the growing demand and the expectations for a better harvest, than a year ago. We'll remind that many enterprises failed to purchase the sufficient volumes past year. The leading companies on the Ukrainian market of canned cucumber are the group of companies Veres (Veres TM), Closed Joint-Stock Company Chumak (Chumak TM), Closed Joint-Stock Company Kraft (Zlatodar TM), and Closed Joint-Stock Company Fozzi (Nezhin TM). Some large enterprises export the major part of the produced commodities to Russia and are less known on Ukrainian market - Joint enterprise Green Ray, Joint enterprise Univer cannery, others.
At the present moment the prices have been set up on such a level which satisfies the producers a lot: USD 0.88-1/kg for pickling (3-5 sm), USD 0.4-0.44/kg for cornichon, 1st group (5-7 sm), USD 0.26-03kg for cornichon, second group. The cucumbers longer than 10 sm are not demanded by the processors - to the present moment they are ready to pay for them not more than USD 0.1/kg.
The hugest capacities for cucumber processing are located in Zakarpattya and Cherkasy oblasts. A new plant was planned to start working in Zakarpattya oblast this year; judging from the announced processing volumes, this plant may occupy one of the top places among other cucumber processors.
