Tomatoes and cucumbers are growing dearer in Odessa
The majority of the clients of Odessa office of the Agricultural Marketing Project (AMP) report about the finished season of field tomato harvesting; the information was provided by Dmitriy Chernyak, the Market Information Specialist of Odesa AMP office. Price growth was a traditional market reaction on shortened tomato supply. As producers say, the last tomato supplies of "plum" variety were sold on USD 0.19-0.23/kg. The average retail price has grown up to USD 0.38/kg by the end of week that is USD 0.09/kg dearer than a week before. Only tomatoes with obvious faults are sold cheaper.
Round tomato is worth USD 0.58-0.87/kg, price on Mikado variety has grown from USD 1.16/kg to 1.94/kg. Greenhouse complexes are selling round tomato in bulk on USD 0.38-0.58/kg.
Considerable price growth on cucumber is observed this week in the oblast. Market players explain this fact by the shortening supply on field cucumber on market; the wholesale price on this commodity reached USD 0.67/kg this week. Greenhouse cucumber producers report about bulk sales on USD 0.8-0.87/kg. By the end of the week the retail cucumber prices have not gone lower USD 0.67/kg that is USD 0.19/kg higher than the minimum retail price observed past week. The maximum price is USD 1/kg (USD 0.77/kg past week).
The analysts think that price growth on tomatoes and cucumbers will continue next week, taking into consideration the further shortening of field commodity supplies and the forecasted abrupt temperature drop.
