Fruit and vegetable processing volumes increased much in Cherkasy oblast
Despite of the insufficient harvest of cucumbers for processing in 2005, Cherkasy oblast canneries consider this year as successful. According to the preliminary estimations done by Sergei Strokan, the Market Information Specialist of Cherkasy office, Agricultural Marketing Project (AMP), the volumes processed by local canneries increased 1.5-2 times. This fact partially caused price growth on fruits and vegetables during the harvesting period in the region.
We'll remind that a pretty great number of canneries work in Cherkasy oblast; they continued extending activities, modifying capacities and investing into new modern equipment this year. Besides, in 2005 new produce processing enterprises were opened in the region. Such processors' activity is caused by the dynamically growing demand on Ukrainian canned produce both on inner and export markets. Ukraine is actively increasing export of canned fruits and vegetables to Russia and other CIS countries; our country is on the way to EU market of processed produce.
The investment attractiveness of the produce business of Ukraine will be covered in the presentations of Ebbe Johnson, the representative of the International Financial Corporation, the Director of the Project on vegetable production development in the Southern region of Ukraine, and Andrea Keerbs, the Export Development Specialist of the Agricultural Marketing Project during the second international conference "Fruits and Vegetables of Ukraine 2005" to be held December 5th-7th, 2005 in Kyiv under support of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal.
