Dutch and Polish traders are interested in Ukrainian produce market
The registration of the participants of the second international conference "Fruits and vegetables of Ukraine 2005" comes to an end. As usual, the majority of companies left registration over till the last moment, so nowadays the organizer of the conference, "Agrooglyad: Fruits and Vegetables" journal receives 20-40 applications for participation a day.
It is pleasant to observe the unusually vivid interest from the side of the representatives of Dutch and Polish wholesale companies who export and import vegetables, fruits and berries. To the opinion of Andriy Yarmak, the Deputy Director of the Agricultural Marketing Project, the growing involvement of the foreign wholesalers in the national market is conditioned by the grown inner consumption of high quality produce, as well as by decrease of the import taxes on fresh and processed fruits and vegetables.
Also, foreign wholesalers find Ukrainian market attractive because of the recently banned produce supplies from Poland to Russia; many export companies in Poland are forced to search for new sales markets. It is also worth to mention that produce wholesale trade remains a vacant niche on the background of a very rapid development of supermarket chains in Ukraine.
As for the moment, we expect about 400 produce business specialists from 17-20 world countries, including up to 20 representatives of the foreign trade companies, to participate in the conference. Many wholesale companies are not only managing sales of imported fruits and vegetables, but also looking for the possibilities to purchase fresh produce in Ukraine. According to the preliminary estimations, they are primarily interested in early vegetables, fruits and berries, water-melons, peaches, apricots, as well as seasonal vegetables - tomato, egg-plant, sweet corn, etc.
