Shortage of Carrot Wholesale Sets Increases Purchase Prices
Carrot prices were growing steadily this past week because of shortened supply, according to information provided by "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" weekly journal. Carrot deficits were especially severe in the eastern and central oblasts of Ukraine, leaving wholesale companies to actively search for suppliers in western regions. Increased demand was also noticed by producers who then increased prices by 10-20%.
Carrot prices differ substantially by regions as wholesale prices range from $0.20-0.25/kg in Western regions to $0.39-0.43/kg in the Southern and Eastern regions of Ukraine. According to analysts' evaluations, carrot supplies are sufficient in small farms; therefore leading experts to believe carrot prices could grow up to $0.78-1.17/kg (as it was past year). However, carrots will probably meet the large demand through the beginning of the new season.
