Poultry flock in Ukraine dropped 5.9 pc in January

According to Ukraine's statistic committee, the number of poultry kept be all categories of breeders in Ukraine as of February 1 this year was registered at 153,400 million heads, down 5.9 percent from the number registered as of January 1. The monthly drop in the flocks occurred both in organized farming businesses (by 0.7 percent, to 65.2 million heads), and in the private households (by 9.4 percent, to 88.1 million heads). The ratio between the flocks kept by private households and organized businesses in January was 57:43 against 60:40 in December.

Nevertheless, the poultry number as of February 1 increased on a yearly basis - by 6.3 percent as compared with February 2005. The increase was provided by the farming businesses, which raised their flock at 30.1 percent over the year. The household owners, on the contrary, cut the number of poultry kept by 6.3 percent as compared with February last year.
