White cabbage prices go down in Ukraine

"Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" weekly journal has already informed about supply of a very large set of Georgian white cabbage. At the same time many producers and wholesalers started to sell white cabbage stocks. As a result, wholesale prices on this commodity have decreased recently. Yesterday cabbage wholesale price went down 8% in Kyiv and 3-4% in Lviv.

Market players, especially from the southern regions of Ukraine point out the supply growth for low and medium quality white cabbage which influences the prices much. This week the producers had to decrease prices to attract buyers. The owners of modern cold storages reported about high quality of their produce and mentioned good cabbage sales on prices 30-40% higher the average market price. Medium-quality cabbage was sold on $ 0.39-0.43/kg; top quality cabbage often costs more than $ 0.58/kg.

In the whole, there is no problem to buy cabbage on Ukrainian market now. The further perspectives of price growth are not so good, to the opinion of the analysts of the Agricultural Marketing Project. The producers from the southern regions inform that early cabbage can come to market in the first decade of April despite of January frosts. So less than two months left for the produce market players to sell stored cabbage, and then the demand will decrease drastically together with the rash price decrease on early cabbage.
