Less vegetable producers are interested in "plum" tomato variety production in Ukraine

According to the information provided by Agricultural Marketing Project to "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal; a great number of tomato producers gives up growing "plum" tomato variety this year. To the specialists' opinion, the primarily reason is an abrupt demand drop on this tomato variety on fresh market, as this tomato was mostly used for unpopular now home-made vegetable canning.

And, "plum" variety was seriously affected by new varieties and hybrids of salad tomato supplied in large volumes to fresh market. Those farmers who produced "plum" tomato past year, told the analysts of "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal about their plans to grow perspective tomato hybrids of salad type or to produce raw materials for processing enterprises, taking into consideration their preferences in tomato varieties and hybrids.

As to our opinion, a significant supply decrease of "plum" tomato will be observed this season; at the same time, the demand for tomato hybrids of foreign selection will grow.
