First shipments of Zakarpattya early cabbage will enter market by the end of this week

According to the information of the Agricultural Marketing Project, Zakarpattya oblast will supply first shipments of early cabbage to the country markets later this week. At the present moment there is early cabbage from the southern rayons of Odesa oblast on market, and imported produce as well. An average wholesale price for Ukrainian early cabbage is $2.9-3.13/kg. Odesa farmers delivered first shipments of this product nearly two weeks earlier than Zakarpattya farmers.

It is a very important moment when Zakarpattya cabbage hits the market; with a great share of probability it leads to the price decrease on early vegetables. The further price decrease for white cabbage of past year harvest can be stimulated by this moment as well.

According to our information, there are quite many farms and wholesale companies storing white cabbage 2005 stocks of several dozens tons in the country. Some of them still hope for the further price growth for this product, despite of the fact that cabbage prices per kilo have been decreasing on some kopeks steadily during three recent weeks. To the experts' opinion, it will be very difficult to sell past year cabbage early May even for a significantly lower price.
