Early cabbage price has decreased 42% during one day in Odesa

On the 25th of April we informed about rapidly decreased prices for early cabbage down to $2.3/kg in Odesa. The forecast of the further dynamic price decline for this commodity was made. The forecast is becoming real now, and the price decrease rates even exceed the preliminary prognoses.

According to the information provided by Dmitriy Chernyak, the Market Information Specialist of Odesa office, Agricultural Marketing Project, today early cabbage is sold $1.5/kg in wholesale. And, the price continues decreasing. The wholesalers paid $1.5/kg for early cabbage directly in farms in the morning. Now, the producers say, the same companies are reluctant to buy cabbage even for $1.3/kg. They prefer to wait. So, early cabbage price has dropped 42% down during one day; it is twice less now comparing to the previous week.

Such a dramatic price decrease disappoints the producers much, especially in view of the greater production costs. This season early cabbage production in forcing frames was more expensive because of colder spring and longer vegetation period.

At the same time, according to the information of the Agricultural Marketing Project, the wholesale prices for early cabbage are decreasing in Zakarpattya too, where the produce started to ripen actively. The AMP specialists inform about an average price decrease down to $1.96/kg. The wholesale price for early white cabbage has decreased in Kyiv too. Yesterday the wholesale shipments of early cabbage cost $2.35-2.54/kg in Kyiv; today the price has dropped down to $ 1.96/kg due to the supply growth. Tomorrow the early cabbage wholesale prices will possibly decrease on another $0.2-0.4/kg.
