Past year cabbage sales grew 60% on Poltava markets

Past week a dramatic supply growth was observed for white cabbage in Poltava, according to the information provided by Yuri Konyaev, the Market Information Specialist of Poltava office, Agricultural Marketing Project.

The thing is, the wholesalers increased the supplied shipments. They purchased cabbage and put it in storage past season. The cabbage supply growth reached 50-60%: the produce is mainly sold for $ 0.68/kg. Despite of the fact that the prices for major vegetables are higher this year comparing to 2005, white cabbage price is 25-30% lower the prices observed early May 2005.

During that period of time white cabbage cost $0.88-0.98/kg. The wholesalers are still getting profit, as they purchased cabbage for $0.23-0.27/kg in season.
