In June tomatoes declined in prices 3-4 times in Ukraine

The results of daily wholesale price monitoring conducted by "Agrooglyad: Vegetables and Fruits" journal showed that in June 2006 the wholesale prices for table tomato varieties decreased more than thrice from an average level of $1.66-1.96/kg down to $0.49-0.78/kg.

Tomato price is the lowest now in the South of Ukraine, $0.49/kg on KOPANI market (tomato cost there $1.76/kg a month ago). The highest is the price of $0.78/kg on FARMER market in Kyiv ($1.66/kg a month ago). An average price of $0.68/kg is observed on SHUVAR market on the West of Ukraine ($1.94/kg a month ago).

In the beginning of this month tomatoes were supplied by large greenhouse complexes, some part of the produce was imported. By the end of month the import ran out, but the produce of large greenhouses remained on market. In addition, many small producers started to enter markets with their tomatoes produced under film forcing frames.

The price decreased this year on the practically the same scenario like in 2005.The only difference is that past year the minimal price was $0.39/kg ($0.49/kg a year ago).
